Great Strategy Games You Can Play With One Thumb
Not every strategy game needs two hands and a quiet room. Some of my favourites are built so you can play them while holding a coffee in the other hand.
The best of these keep their information dense but readable. A good one-thumb game lets you pause, scan the board, and act with a single tap. Anything that forces fiddly multi-touch gestures tends to get deleted fast.
I look for generous pause systems and clear tap targets. If I have to zoom and pinch just to place a unit, the game is fighting me instead of my opponents.
Short session design matters too. A strategy game I can dip into for five minutes and leave without losing progress is worth far more to me than a sprawling epic I never find time for.
Legends of Slots and Ironhold Siege both pass this test, and they are the two I keep returning to on crowded trains.
