The Settings I Change Before Playing Any Mobile Strategy Game

July 3, 2026 · Jonas Keller

Before I dig into a new strategy game, I spend a couple of minutes in the settings menu. It sounds dull, but it genuinely improves how the game feels.

First stop is animation speed. Most strategy and tower defence games let you speed up combat, and turning that up makes the whole experience snappier without changing the challenge.

Next I check the haptics and sound. On a phone, well-tuned vibration can tell you when a wave starts or a unit falls, which is handy when you glance away for a second.

I also look for a left-handed or mirrored layout if one exists, and I lock the screen orientation so the game does not flip when I shift on the sofa.

None of these are secrets, but players skip them constantly and then wonder why a good game feels clunky. Five minutes up front pays off for hours.
